A bit of history...

I have always been interested in computers and technology. Initially, it was mainly about helping the alley cat and creating psychedelic desktop themes for Windows 3.1. But this interest soon evolved into wanting to know more technical details of that machine in front of me.

So I started to collect magazines about computer components, create mIRC scripts, and eventually a graduated from the Computer Science program at the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil. After a couple of years of working in my home country, I decided to go back to school and explore more the foundations of my major.

This objective (and a scholarship!) took me to Japan. In a matter of days, my life went from watching the sunset at a Brazilian beach to watching the famous Japanese cherry blossoms reach their full bloom! For six years I was part of the Kitagawa & Amagasa Data Engineering Laboratory at the University of Tsukuba. During this time, I researched about performance and security of databases, published academic papers, and talked about them at international conferences. It was a very exciting period that helped me grow a lot both professionally and personally.

At the end of my PhD, I had the chance to continue in academia as a researcher, but that was when some Romanians introduced me to a different path: the creation of software robots to help people be more productive.

Let automation do the work for you!

I joined one of the big players in the process automation space, UiPath, in the first year of its presence in Japan. It was still at the beginning of its meteoric growth, and I had the opportunity to wear many hats during my time there: from support to presales, from training to solutions development, presenting at internal company events and conferences for customers – always contributing to the success of enterprise customers from all over the world.

Now my main tool for process automation is Google Apps Script. Combined with Google Chrome extensions and a bit of creativity, Google Apps Script makes it easy to automate Google Workspace products (Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Drive, Calendar, etc). It is also flexible enough to connect to external services and create end-to-end automation workflows.

I believe this kind of practical automation can free people from daily repetitive tasks, and allow them to do creative and meaningful work (or to just have more time to enjoy a sunny afternoon in the middle of the week)!
